Description
This is an Emeralite Bankers Lamp manufactured by the H.F. McFaddin Co., No. 8734, Patented August 16, 1916.
The bases were manufactured in the United States and the Glass Shades were produced in the glass factory of J. Schreiber & Neffen, which plant was located in the city of Rapotin, Moravia, in what is now the Czech Republic., under the order of H.F. McFaddin Co.
The shade is original, using the cased glass technique, the shades were made of white opal glass on the inside with a layer of “green” on the outside. It is designed to fit snugly into the clamp on the back by brass clips inside the shade, on the back and sides allowing the shade to be removed for cleaning with out disturbing the lamp or wiring.
The Glass Inkwells, were produced in glass by The Sengbusch Self Cleaning Inkstand Co. of Milwaukee, as featured with this piece.
The patina on the base and stand show some wear, but the over all artistry of this lamp is classic and will bring a sense of the timeless past to your space. The base is solid cast brass encapsulating a weighted base for stability.
The McFaddin Co. changed hands and was renamed in the 1930’s at which point the new company focused on more contemporary designs that never achieved the level of popularity or production of the earlier McFaddin company.
The style and warmth of these lamps produced at the height of the Arts & Crafts movement have created a enormous appeal that only a small fraction remain as these are disappearing into collections.
The Lamp Shade is adjustable, and the overall height is approximately 18″.
The Shade is 8 1/2″ X 5″ X 4″ Tall. The Base is 7″ X 6 1/2″ X 1″ Tall.
This is a true work of Art and one of a kind design.
