Description
This vintage salt and pepper shaker pair features beautifully modeled rainbow trout rendered in hand-painted ceramic with exceptional mid-century detail. Produced in Japan during the postwar export era, the set retains its original Made in Japan foil label and reflects the growing popularity of sporting, fishing, and lodge-themed décor during the 1950s and 1960s.
Unlike many novelty fish shakers of the period, these examples display realistic coloration and refined craftsmanship. The bodies feature blended green, pink, and cream tones with speckled detailing, molded fins, defined gill work, and expressive open mouths. The sculptural quality gives the fish a sense of movement rarely found in mass-produced novelty ceramics.
Originally sold through gift shops, sporting goods departments, and lake-resort retailers, these trout appeal to collectors of vintage Japanese ceramics, fishing memorabilia, cabin décor, and mid-century sporting accessories. Their realistic presentation allows them to function equally well as decorative display pieces and collectible tableware.
Condition: Excellent vintage condition with strong gloss retention. Original Made in Japan foil label remains present.
