History

Originally settled in 1825, the area was first known as "Canandaigua" before being renamed after the picturesque Lake Orion, around which the village developed. The arrival of the railroad in the late 1800s transformed Lake Orion into a popular resort destination, drawing visitors from Detroit and beyond to its scenic shores and bustling amusement park, Park Island, which operated from the late 19th century until the early 20th century.

The village itself was incorporated in 1859, and many of its historic buildings still stand today, reflecting its development over the decades. Today, Lake Orion is known not only for its beautiful natural surroundings but also for its deep-rooted history, which continues to shape its identity and charm.
